Extra-Curricular - Digital Learning Tools

Technology

Early Stage 1

During the first semester of this year, Kindergarten learnt the basic functions of the computer. They have become very capable at logging on and off the computer and navigating through the network. They are adept at creating pictures on Tux Paint as well as typing basic sentences and using basic elements of the toolbar on Microsoft Word. In the second half of the year we have been focusing on iPads. The children learnt how to use two applications, Beebot and Scratch Jnr. These apps ask students to navigate characters around their iPad screen by giving them set instructions. The children have thoroughly enjoyed these apps to this point.

Stage 1

Throughout the year, Stage 1 have been developed a multitude of technological skills. Starting with the basics, their knowledge of Microsoft word was enhanced, giving them greater skills when designing projects and documents. They have explored Powerpoint creating their own presentation linked to key learning areas. iPads have been a valuable resource developing students coding skills in applications such as Scratch Jnr and Toontastic.

Robotics

The creation of units of work for Robotics at Hunters Hill Public School are cross curricular and facilitate a deep understanding of the technology involved, as well as encouraging higher-order thinking and problem solving skills.

The five-week Robotics learning sequence gives students from K - 6 the opportunity to research, build and program a robot. Students are on task and engaged through each learning sequence, as skills are built upon and challenges are posed to students for individualised learning.
